OUR STORY
A Message from Our President & CEO
LEADERSHIP
Kristie L. Kenney, Ph.D.
President & Chief Executive Officer
For me, this mission is deeply personal.
My passion for serving kidney patients and their families was born from my own family's journey with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). I witnessed firsthand the devastating impact kidney disease can have on a patient and everyone who loves them. My father courageously battled CKD before ultimately succumbing to the disease. Throughout that journey, I also watched my mother navigate the tremendous responsibilities, emotional strain, and sacrifices that come with being a caregiver.
Experiencing both the patient and caregiver perspectives gave me a profound understanding of the challenges faced by families affected by kidney disease. It also inspired a lifelong commitment to improving education, awareness, advocacy, and support for those walking a similar path.
At the United Kidney Foundation, we believe that knowledge saves lives. That is why one of our highest priorities is the continued expansion of educational programming throughout Tennessee. We are committed to equipping patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community members with the information and resources necessary to better understand kidney disease, promote prevention, encourage early detection, and improve health outcomes.
Tennessee continues to face significant challenges related to kidney disease, diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic conditions that contribute to kidney failure. Through strategic partnerships and community engagement, we strive to be a trusted resource for education, advocacy, and support across our state.
In addition to our educational initiatives, the United Kidney Foundation proudly supports signature programs focused on patient empowerment, community outreach, wellness promotion, healthcare navigation, professional education, and public awareness. These programs are designed to strengthen the kidney community while ensuring that individuals and families have access to the tools and support they need to make informed healthcare decisions.
As responsible stewards of every contribution entrusted to us, we are committed to utilizing funds raised to advance educational programming, expand medical support services, strengthen community outreach efforts, and develop innovative initiatives that improve the lives of kidney patients throughout Tennessee. Every donation directly supports our mission of creating healthier communities and empowering those affected by kidney disease.
The United Kidney Foundation was founded on the belief that no individual or family should face kidney disease alone. Together, we can increase awareness, improve access to education and support, and create lasting change for current and future generations.
Thank you for joining us in this important work. Your support helps us bring hope, knowledge, and opportunity to those affected by kidney disease across Tennessee and beyond.
Built on One Conviction
WHO WE ARE
The United Kidney Foundation was built on one conviction: kidney health is a community issue. Every person, regardless of zip code, income, or background, deserves access to the education, support, and resources that can genuinely change the course of their health.
We are advocates, educators, navigators, and neighbors. And we're just getting started.

Why United Kidney Foundation?
WHY US?
Because the need is urgent, and it's personal. Kidney disease disproportionately affects Black and Hispanic communities, older adults, and people without consistent access to healthcare. We exist to bridge those gaps. Through community partnerships, evidence-informed programs, and patient-centered care, UKF is building a network of real support, one that meets people where they are.
